I knew I wanted fish for dinner today. Got tips from a friend at home and from some friends I had lunch together with. The result was very good!!
- Slice: 2 potatoes, 2 carrots, 1/2 of an onion, 2 mushrooms and 2 spring onions
- 2-3 big pieces of red bell pepper (paprika)
- 1 1/2 frozen fillet of salmon with herbs and garlic
Put the potatoes on the bottom, on oiled aluminium foil, sprinkle it with pepper-mix and salt on both sides. The fish on top there, and the rest of the vegetables springled around and on top of the fish. Season everything with lemon-pepper, black pepper-mix and salt. Leave the aluminium foil open and put it in the oven for 20-30 minutes on 225 degrees celcius.

I’m thinking about my future. My dreams. Are they the same as God’s dreams for me? I hope He will open my heart, so I can see His plans for me.
For many many years I’ve been dreaming about living in a small village somewhere in the UK. Why? Don’t really know, just seems cozy.
All since the first time I visited my relatives in the US in the small town La Crosse, on the shores of Mississippi, I’ve been thinking and dreaming about living there for a while. Love that place! I’ve also been thinking that it would be nice to live in Chicago. Doing something related to health, maybe directed into poor people.
But most of all I’m thinking that from when I’m finishing the studies, life will be on hold in a way, until I’m moving to somewhere in Africa for a year or two, to work with something related to health and mission. Sounds very exciting to me. But I know that God’s plans for are so so much more exciting than I can imagine! And again and again I’m thinking about how exciting my last 5-6 years have been, and how I’ve been able to do something I love, both for fun and for God, traveling. How much more shouldn’t I look with excitement into the furture!!
And of corse I’m thinking about when I should settle and get my own family. But do I have to settle before I can get my own family? No, not really. A friend ones told me that the dreams absolutely don’t have to stop when I get a family, then I will have the joy of having someone to share them with and dream together with!
Just had to get it out before I went to sleep. It’s 3.25 in the morning. Glad I don’t have any plans tomorrow/today! Except church in the evening:)
Weather. The one thing it is safe to talk about to anyone. I guess I was a little too early to think that “the spring is on his way”, this year.. This past January we’ve had a lot less snow then the two past years, actually, I don’t think we got any new snow this January, only low temperatures and blue skies. I’ve even heard the birds singing! But this past week the snow has returned, but it’s not too cold, so now everything is wet, and there are small ponds everywhere. Yeah, snow can be nice, but now it’s like being home, too wet. Well, February is short, and next month is the first of the three so called spring-months. Then the snow will go away. Hopefully.
Since I know that the time is running, I’ve started to look for a place too stay from June. Have to move out from my room during the summer, since this place is for students only. And yes, if you red between the lines, I’ll finish my studies this spring! So I have to move. But no one will come up to me and give me a great offer on a nice apartment. I have to look for my self. So here I sit, looking on price, place, space, pictures and a lot of other things that I have to consider.

Frustration. Questions. Time. Things. School. Where? When? Alone?
I’m sorry for the silence. Again. If I’ve written that before. Have a feeling that I have done just that you see. I can’t say I’ve been too busy to write this time. These weeks in January have been very nice, school has been ok, short days, not much to prepare etc. School by the way, with lectures in a classroom, is for me, a closed chapter for some years. Now I have nine weeks of practical studies, one three-day exam, and seven weeks of writing my final paper!
We started practical studies yesterday, a day with a lot of information. So today will be the first day in the ward.
Since I’m working evening-shift today, I had a quick breakfast before I went out, with my camera hanging arund my neck.
Outside a cool, fresh breeze, sun and the city-noice met me. There were smells from the local bakery and fast-food restaurant, people rushing to reach something. And me, with my camera and a coffee-to-go. I went to the pier, sat down and got some nice shots of the birds and people:)

My thoughts went to a dear friend in Uganda and her family. They lost a doughter and a sister in an accident right before Christmas.
It was good to come home on December 19th, to have over two weeks at home, off from the life in Oslo. But it was not two weeks off from work. I got a job in a ward for patients with heart-problems, some shifts around Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, but was free in between. So I had plenty of time hagning out with family during daytime and friends in the evenings:D
But everything was not as we planned the Christmas to be. One of the days before, my oldest nephew, Oskar, was admitted in the hospital. He stayed there for a few days and came out on Christmas Eve. Was admitted again on New Years Eve for a few days, but they finally found the right medicin for his epilepsy and he is much better now!
Christmas Eve I worked day-shift, so I came home to the nice part, missing the stress to get all things finished before 5 o’clock when we are eating the Christmas dinner. When we were satisfied and the kids were ready for the gifts we went to my sister and her family’s place to open the presents. I went to Oskar to be with him for some time, and when I came back I had dressed up like the Santa!

On Christmas Day we got the sad message that my mum’s aunt had had a big stroke and didn’t make it. The funeral was held January 4th.
This was the first Christmas in a long time that has been white, so it was easier to get the Christmas-mood. The weather was really nice some days, so we were outside playing in the snow, me and Jakob went to a hill-top to sled and on Boxing Day me, my parents and Ragna went to the beach to see frozen see tangles and just enjoy the nice weather.
Boxing Day we went to my grandparents’ where we gather every Christmas. It was not the same this year, since my grandmother lost her sister the day before, but we ate a lot of good food and had a nice time together anyway, with games and a quiz.
New Years Eve we had my other sister and her family visiting for dinner. My nephew had seen fireworks the day before, which he thought was very exciting, so he went around, saying “boom”.

Later I had some friends over and we had a really nice time:D We played games, ate good food and enjoyed each others company. I went to bed at 4.30 am New Years Day..

Today is January 8th, and I’m back in Oslo! Have already started my last semester in nursing. It will contain two weeks of school, 9 weeks of practical studies in a ward for people with fractures and 7 weeks of writing my bachelor-paper. May 23rd is my deadline but I hope to be done on the 20th!
It’s December 15th. The year is coming to an end. Yesterday was my last day with practical studies at a hospital for mentally ill persons. Which means that I have started my Christmas-holdidays:) 5/6 of my education is done! Can’t believe it..and I don’t think the last semester will go any slower.
But, this blog is about the past year, 2010.
It’s been a very interresting year indeed! I had my first practical period in a hospital, in a ward for patients with pulmonary diseases and general infections. I learned a lot and it was really interresting and exciting! I’m actually going back there three days this week to work. While I was there I started to think of my friends in Chicago, and thought it would be nice to see them again soon. So why not go there for Easter-holidays? I did, and also visited relatives, Auni and her family and Derek and his family! Always good to see all of you! And it was so nice to be back at Jesus People in Chicago:)

This second year at school ended with some ok weeks, not to hectic. Second year was finished! Wow, one more to go. This was in the start of June. Another highlight in June was my sister Maria and Ole’s wedding:D
All since I read a report on FOCUS Uganda’s mission in 2009, I had decided to go there and be a part of the 2010-mission. After some small problems in Nairobi, and a night at a hotel there, it was so good to be back!!! To sit in Sam and Alice’s livingroom, walk on dusty roads to Watoto Church to attend 12-o’clock service was really wonderful! I enjoyed everything I saw along the road, and was thinking; “home”. The mission was wonderful, and I got new friends from Uganda and the US. I hope you have read the blogs about it and about the medical outreach in the Katanga slum. Can’t describe it with words.
Coming back to Oslo me and Kay moved all our things to my new small room and cleaned the apartment before going home. This was the last summer to not be a real nurse! So probably the last one to work in the home based care at home:) It was ok, but I like the wards better, or health-work in Africa. But a summer at home also mean time with family and friends. And not least, this summer Janelia and Kristian got married. Eirik and Coralanne also got married, in the US, but they had a celebration at Valderøya too <3

August started with a trip to Frankfurt together with Karl-Erik to be at the U2-concert! WOW! That’s all I can say:D The following weekend I went to Stavanger together with some Hald-friends to attend Prince William and Vibeke’s wedding:) Then it was kick-off at school, this fall we had lectures mostly on mental sufferings. It was also time to start work again at the hospital where I hadn’t worked for the whole summer. Every third weekend, and sometimes some extra.
The first weekend in September I went back home to attend my friends’, Yvonne and Olav’s wedding! It was really fun, so many friends was gathered! Back in Oslo, the after-school club for kids was starting again after the break. Now I was going to be one of the four in the leadership-team. I was very excited, but to be an example, not just for the kids, but now also for the other leaders, was a challenge for me! But I think I’ve growned on it and it’s been exciting to be outside my comfort-zone. But I had a break from this while I was back in Africa again. This time for practical studies in health development and prevention in Malawi together with Marielle, Åse, Liliane and Tiril! We started with one week of holidays, with a safari in Zambia. The weeks in Malawi was very interresting, mostly to see how organized it was, though in an African way, and how good the follow-up on the children was.

Coming home from Malawi I had a week before I started my practical studies in mental health, so I went home for a few days:) Two weekends after I was back at the airport. Kay, who I shared flat with the two first years in Oslo, moved to Førde this fall, so I suggested that me and Stine, a good friend of ours, should try to find a weekend when we could visit Kay together. And we actual managed! So early november we went there and had a nice, relaxing weekend. After that, seven quite intensive weeks at the mental hospital awaited me.

To live alone this fall has been quite boring. Especially since I haven’t had any TV until recently. Then it helps to have friends to hang out with!!

The next five days I will work three shifts at the ward for patients with pulmonary diseases and general infections and two shifts where I usually work, ward for patients with gastrointestinal infections. Then I will go home, to enjoy time with family and friends, relax, eat good food and simply have a good time!
As you can read, I’ve done a lot of traveling, mostly by plane. I’ve actually been on 36 take-off’s (and landings), been to three new contries (Germany, Malawi and Zambia), and eight in total this year! (counting contries where I’ve been outside the airport) And I have to say, I love it:)
2010 has been a very nice, interresting and challenging year, with a lot of Blessings!
If I should point out one highlight in 2010, it has to be the medical outreach in Katanga!
